It’s no secret that many of us students are sleep deprived. On top of studying, assignments, and club activities, it can sometimes be difficult to get those elusive 8 hours of sleep and still accomplish a balanced evening routine for school. And during exam season? Forget it. But what if there were a better way?
This evening routine for school is meant to be followed after you’ve had your classes for the day and spent a few hours studying. You can adjust the timing to fit your needs. I’ve written a productive morning routine for students, so you can check that out here. These guides go together to help you create a productive and realistic routine as a busy student.
6-7 pm: Exercise
Whether you prefer going to a gym or doing your favorite at home workout, moving your body is an important part of your evening routine for school! Exercising after sitting and studying all day is also necessary for the mind too. It helps to do it with friends, so it’s more fun and keeps you accountable.
7 – 8 pm: Dinner
To help you save time on dinner, I recommend meal prepping your meals for the week on Sunday. That way, when you get home, you can just heat up your meal and you’re good to go.
8- 8:30 pm: Shower
Showering after a long day is a nice way to unwind and relax, making it an essential part of your evening routine for school. It will also save you time in the morning.
8:30 – 10 pm: Read & Highlight Lectures for the Next Day
This is so very important! Reading your notes ahead of time will allow you to catch more details while sitting in lecture the next day. It also will allow you to organize your notes and slides before you get to class in the morning.
10 – 10: 30 pm: Prepare Lunch, Breakfast, Water
Prepping for the next day will help you save time in the morning allowing you to get some extra rest and put more thought into your breakfast and lunch. I love to make overnight oats and pack up my lunch so it’s ready to just grab as I head out the door the next morning. Before heading out of the kitchen, I’ll fill a glass with water and bring it to my night stand, so I have it right as I wake up in the morning.
10:30 – 10:35 pm: Set out Outfit for Next Day
Picking out an outfit will save you time in the morning. Plus, you won’t be as groggy when deciding on what to wear for the day.
10:35 – 10:40 pm: Pack Bag for Next Day
Packing up your notes, laptop, and anything else you’ll need for the next day in your backpack will ensure you don’t leave anything behind.
10:40 – 11 pm: Read
Let’s be honest. After a day of reading notes and studying, most of us don’t want to read a book for fun. However, it’s super important that we don’t lose site of reading content outside of our relevant studies that is still important to us. For example, if you study a science subject, try to challenge yourself to read works of history, so you stay well rounded.
